Well done to all the first years who took part in our Science Week art competition. This year's theme was female scientific superheros with all the great women of science represented from Marie Curie to Ada Lovelace.
Fifth year Katie Byrne receiving her Excellence in STEM award from Dr Ruth Freeman of Science Foundation Ireland at the Scifest National Final which took place in the Marino Conference Centre on Friday.
A supermoon happens when the moon makes an especially close approach to the earth. November 13th and 14th saw the biggest supermoon since 1948. This historic event was captured by some of our first year students Aine Duffy, Emily O Brien, Rachel Wogan and Katie Gaff. Katie also sent us a supermoon photo from her cousin in Australia. Thanks to all the girls for their photos. Many thanks to the 5th year Chemistry class for demonstrating experiments at lunchtime on Tuesday. Students and staff had fun with “oobleck”, “self assembling jelly worms”, rockets launches”, “CO2 fire extinguishers”, “fire resistant balloons”, “musical straws” and much much more! Science week was in full swing on Monday with experiment demos from 2nd yrs at lunch time; “burning money”, “flame tests”, “fun with a pig’s lung”, “liver experiments”, “disappearing coffee cup”, “instant snow” and “eggsplosions!” A big thank you to Ms Collins Science class for hosting the event. |
